French Bulldog Grooming Tips: How to Properly Groom Your Pet
French Bulldogs are a sturdy, compact, and stocky breed. One of their prominent features is their bat like ears that stand erect. They have a medium-fine, short and smooth coat and are one of the most popular dog breeds in the world. Many famous personalities including JPMorgan's, Hugh Jackman, and David Beckham own French Bulldogs.
When it comes to their temperament, French Bulldogs have a very good reputation. They are often regarded as one of the best companion dogs in the world. They behave very freely with other animals and people, and are never known to become aggressive. This breed is known for their mischievousness and attention seeking behavior. They don't require rigorous exercise, in fact they should not be allowed to play outside too much, especially during summers, or when the sun is strong. This is because they are not able to tolerate heat well and are prone to heat strokes. Rigorous activities can also cause spinal problems, heart disorders, or joint disorders. However, this is not too much of a problem as the French Bulldog can be fairly active indoors, making them a popular pet for city dwellers or pet owners who don't have much space.
Grooming a French Bulldog
This breed is generally a low maintenance breed, meaning they don't require as much grooming as other dogs. Having said that, they do get dirty and need to be cleaned and bathed periodically. Extra care should be taken while bathing them due to their overlapping skin folds in which dirt may accumulate, leading to infections and skin problems. They are also prone to tick and fleas. Some common grooming tips for your pet include:
Bathing is the best way to get rid of dirt and to keep your pet healthy and hygienic. It is good to use a dog shampoo while bathing, as shampoos remove dirt and odor without removing the essential oils from your puppy's fur.
It is very important to trim, brush and comb your pet's fur regularly. Puppies may require trimming and brushing on a daily basis, as their fur can become matted and knotted. The good news is, that since this breed are low fur shedders, they don't make much of a mess while brushing.
Cleaning your dog's teeth from a very early age is also important, and helps to eliminate dental health problems from an early age. If left untreated, dental problems can also lead to serious kidney and liver ailments. There are many toothpastes and toothbrushes available for dogs which you can get from a local pet store.
You should also trim your pet's nails regularly. This is because French Bulldogs don't wear down their toenails naturally. You can use dog clippers for trimming nails which are much safer than regular clippers and which can be purchased from your local pet store.
Another essential part of grooming is taking care of your pet's ears. When cleaning their ears with cotton swabs or a cloth, make sure that you don't poke into their inner canal. Instead gently dab the outer areas. A healthy ear looks pink and not red. If you are unsure about how to clean it, take your dog to a vet or a dog groomer who will be able to help.
